Capital Region Muscular Dystrophy was formed in 2014. It is a small group working in the ACT and surrounding regions to support people with a neuromuscular condition like Muscular Dystrophy. Currently, there are very limited specific services to assist people with Muscular Dystrophy in the local area. Patients usually need to travel to Sydney to receive a diagnosis and treatment plan.
The founding members of CRMD represent a broad range of backgrounds and experiences including people with the condition, family members or friends of someone with the condition and local business people.
From a small beginning we are quickly growing, working closely with NSWMD and the MD Foundation on a national level. We have also established a good working relationship with the University of Canberra to develop clinical services in the ACT.
Our vision is to improve the quality of life of people living with a neuromuscular condition and their families and supporters.
One of CRMD’s philosophies is to promote awareness and opportunities for people with neuromuscular conditions to sustain and improve their wellbeing and functional independence through proper exercise diet and other practices that combat the onset of these conditions.
We are always looking to develop our approach and we value input from all sources. We welcome your involvement and value your ideas and feedback. If you would like to provide a comment, suggest an idea or better yet, get involved, please contact us by phone or email.
